VALPARAÍSO & VIÑA DEL MAR CITY EXCURSION VVCT-01 / 5 Hours Round Trip | VVCT-02 / 8 Hours from or to Santiago
In this tour you'll see the main areas of the Port City of Valparaiso, which include the Main Square, the Paseos or promenades, the street art districts, the alleyways and staircases and more. You'll also take funiculars, and experience the city at a flexible pace, allowing for you to understand what many travel magazines are raving about. Our half day city tour is a route intended for you to understand what the city's main attractions are, and hopefully you'll get a feel for this very lively port city, which is well known for its history, art and street music. Valparaiso has been compared to cities such as New Orleans, San Francisco and Lisbon, but in reality it's a city that every visitor makes their own, and has their own point of view on. Almost every street is covered in Street Art and colorful Graffiti; street musicians are found in most of the Cerros (hills), and due to the gold rush in the early 1850's, it is a place that once flourished economically, but then witnessed turmoil in the 1900's due to the creation of the Panama Canal; the depression of the 1930's; WW1; WW2 and consequently the Coup d'etat of 1973. Since the return to democracy in 1990, Valparaiso has begun to pick itself up; investors have been looking at it as a possible main destination in South America, and this has allowed for amazing restaurants to emerge, as well as great coffee houses, boutique hotels, breweries, and much more.
Viña del Mar is called the “beautiful city” or Ciudad Bella. When you arrive from Santiago, you can appreciate it the most, due to the view from Agua Santa Road. The fast growth in this city is astounding, and the beautiful parks and beaches give it the reputation it’s had since the late 1800’s. The places we visit here are “Avenida Marina”, where we take a walk and see the castles; “Avenida San Martin”, and the “Avenida Peru” coastline. We’ll also see the Quinta Vergara (Vergara Estate), where you’ll see trees, plants & flowers that were imported over a century ago by one of the Vergaras, and still stand majestically in this park. From there, we’ll see an original “Mohai”, brought from Easter Island, as well as the palaces and museums in the area, and of course, several shopping areas for handicrafts and souvenirs.
